A long December

Next year will be better than the last.

The long December is upon us, and while the great 90’s philosopher, The Counting Crows, posited that there is reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last our crystal ball, Dr. Fauci, suggests that that is not case. So to make it through the end of the apocalypse, we have a none bleach injecting suggestion, which to reconsider fish as a comfort food. For too long fish has borne the reputation as uppity, unfriendly, certainly not comforting but that could not be further from the truth. Is there anything better on a cold night than tucking into a bowl of steamed mussels, infused with the flavors of garlic and wine? Or a hearty bouillabaisse full of under sea treasures? Maybe a clam chowder? New England or Manhattan, we don’t judge. The list long and full of fish. Since winter is coming, next time you are thinking about braised short ribs consider braised Monkfish instead.

Abundant

This is what we think are the best weekend options.

North Atlantic

  • Swordfish
  • Pollock
  • Hake
  • Lobsters

Mid Atlantic

  • Black Sea Bass
  • Fluke
  • Spanish Mackerel

Not so much

While we are in good supply of most items, here are some items that are in short supply.

Avoid

  • Wild Stripe Bass
  • Mixed Sole
  • Diver Scallops
  • Razor Clams
  • Fresh Squid (Medium & Large)

Clams, Mussels, & Oysters

  • Due to poor weather in Maine, there will be no Hollander De Koning mussels for this weekend. We will be bringing in Bangs Island from Casco Bay as an alternative.

Specialty Items

  • From Golden Osetra to Sevurga, we have the caviar you need for this "holiday" season. Please ask about pricing. A pre-order is required.

Cod and Ground Fish

  • Halibut has become increasing difficult to find. The price is on the rise.
  • We are receiving a shipment of Cod tonight, but due to stormy weather off the coast of Iceland the shipment initially scheduled for early next week will not be arriving as expected.

Swordfish

  • Swordfish continues to be abundant and well-priced. We will have fish from Brazil and Canada for this weekend.

Scallops

  • We are happy to report that the quality of dry Sea Scallops has greatly improved over the last week.
